Cartersville City Council Member To Resign

Lindsey McDaniel has served Ward 4 residents for several years.

CARTERSVILLE, GA -- A Cartersville City Council member has announced plans to resign from the Ward 4 seat he's held for several years.

Mayor Matt Santini read a letter into the record at the Council's April 20 meeting, announcing Lindsey McDaniel's resignation.

McDaniel was not at the Thursday meeting, and his resignation will become effective June 1.

"I feel that this decision is in the best interest for all, and will allow me to focus more on some personal matters that have taken priority," McDaniel wrote. I will always cherish the friendships we have established over the last 13 plus years, and being a part of the decision making process for the city will also be missed. However, I am confident that my replacement will make an immediate positive impact once appointed."

The city is now accepting applications from residents to serve out the unexpired term, which ends Dec. 31, 2019. Candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • be a U.S. Citizen;
  • live in Ward 4
  • be at least 25 years old;
  • be a qualified and registered voter in Cartersville;
  • be a resident of Cartersville continuously for at least one year and a resident of the state of Georgia for a least two years;
  • have not been convicted of a felony involving "moral turpitude" per the Georgia Constitution, Article 2, Section 2, Paragraph III; and
  • not be in default on taxes per the Georgia Constitution, Article 2, Section 2, Paragraph III.
