Cartersville Kmart Set to Close

Liquidation sales start in November and the store with about 75 employees closes in January.

While it survived an earlier round of store closings, which affected nearby Athens, Buford and Douglasville locations, the Kmart in Cartersville is set to close in January.

The local store employs 74, mostly part-timers, who will receive severance, although some may fill open positions in other stores, reports The Daily Tribune News.

"We made a business decision not to renew the lease," spokesman Chris Brathwaite told the newspaper.

Liquidation sales begin next month and the facility located in an already largely vacant shopping center is set Jan. 22 to shut its doors, according to the newspaper and Cartersville UNCUT.

Restaurants and shops, including an office supply store and Rite Aid, already have left Cartersville Crossing, the Main Street shopping center Kmart anchors, leaving a number of vacant storefronts.
