Cartersville Medical-Surgical Nursing Units Win Awards

Cartersville, GA -- Two of the medical-surgical nursing units at Cartersville Medical Center were recently recognized as Nursing Units of Distinction by the Hospital Corporation of America.

Out of 490 participating Medical-Surgical nursing units within HCA across the country, Cartersville Medical Center’s 2 North ranked in the top 5 percent and was awarded the HCA Unit of Distinction Award and 2 Central ranked in the top 10 percent and received Honorable Mention.
The Cartersville nursing units were also the only recipients from HCA’s Georgia hospital facilities. Both nursing units are led by Lisa Ponder, director, medical-surgical nursing.

“Med-Surg at Cartersville Medical Center is filled with caring nursing professionals who made receiving these awards possible,” Ponder said. “I work with the best of the best every day.”
The Medical-Surgical Unit of Distinction represents the top performing Medical-Surgical Departments within HCA.
HCA established the program to recognize top performing units displaying exemplary performance in Leadership, Clinical Practice, and Operations. Excellence in Medical-Surgical Nursing recognizes that it takes a mature performing team of clinical staff demonstrating a commitment to professional development, positive patient outcomes and adoption of efficient practices to achieve high performing results.
The Unit of Distinction Award recognizes and celebrates the individual departments that are defining Excellence in Medical-Surgical Nursing. These units will serve as role models for other HCA Medical-Surgical departments, serving as the Units of Distinction.
The program measured metrics for the 2015 calendar year, from Jan. 1 to Sept. 30.
