Cartersville police have re-activated the Facebook messaging feature on its page, and its command staff will regularly monitor the messages.

That does not mean you should use social media to bombard the agency with your requests for reports, however.

Residents are told to contact the department’s administrative offices at 770-382-2526 for incident report inquiries, general information, filing complaints against officers and inquiries about identification to serve alcohol at local establishments.

Cartersville police want residents to use the messaging function to offer crime tips, such as leads on suspects, finding stolen property and information that could be used to stop a crime before it happens.

“This will hopefully help us serve you better, especially if you are a victim of a crime,” the agency added.
