Cartersville Police Officer Dies In Off Duty Crash

CARTERSVILLE, GA—The Cartersville Police Department is currently mourning the loss of one of their own.

According to the department, Officer Sarah Beth Barnes passed away in Dallas, GA as a result of a motor vehicle crash that occurred Thursday. The accident happened while she was off duty.

“The Cartersville Police Department wishes to express its deepest condolences to the family of Officer Sarah Beth Barnes, Badge # 189," the department said in a statement Friday. "Officer Barnes was a valuable member of our team, community, and she will be sorely missed. Please keep Officer Barnes’ family and friends in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”

She had been with the department for two years, Alive 11 reported.

Family friends told WSB-TV that Barnes leaves behind a husband and five children.

Following the news of her passing, many people took to social media to express their condolences.

"This is just heartbreaking. I met her on one occasion when I needed help. She assisted so professionally and with caring. May God bless her soul," one person commented.

"Sarah was one of the officers that served as SRO for Cartersville Primary and Cartersville Elementary. She was a kind and caring officer and got to know us and our students. We are heartbroken," another person said.

Funeral arrangements are currently pending.
