Cartersville Woman Accused Of Hitting Boyfriend With SUV

A witness said the woman struck her boyfriend with an SUV Sunday at the intersection of Spruce Lane and Dolphin Drive, a police report said.

CARTERSVILLE, GA — A Bartow County woman was arrested after allegedly striking her boyfriend with a vehicle Sunday in Cartersville. A sheriff's deputy was dispatched to the area of Spruce Lane SE and Dolphin Drive SE around 8:18 p.m. Sunday, March 25 in response to a call of a person who was hit by a vehicle.

After a quick search, the alleged victim was located in the wooded area near the intersection and told police he was in a "domestic dispute" with his girlfriend. The Cartersville resident said he tried to leave the house to avoid additional conflict with the woman, but she "tried to make him stop," according to an incident report released by the Bartow County Sheriff's Office.

While he was walking down the road, the victim said his girlfriend tried to him with her car several times before returning back to the house. The deputy noted in his report that the resident had blood "smeared on his face and a minor cut on his right knee from the incident."

According to the report, Payne said she was in an argument with her boyfriend when he tried to leave. She told the deputy she did not want him to leave and even begged him to stay. While she denied leaving the house or trying to hit her boyfriend with the vehicle, a witness to the incident said otherwise.

An assisting deputy spoke with the witness who said she saw Payne trying to strike her boyfriend at the intersection. The SUV, a 2003 Dodge Durango, missed its intended target at first, but the car was put in reverse and its operator drove forward, the report adds. On that second attempt, the SUV made contact with the man and was driven back into the driveway of the home on Spruce Lane, the witness said.

Police note blood was found on the SUV and photographs were snapped as part of evidence collection. Payne was transported to Cartersville Medical Center for treatment of her laceration and later booked into the Bartow County Jail on one count each of felony aggravated assault and misdemeanor criminal trespass under the Family Violence Act. She was booked into the Jail on March 25 and released March 27 after posting a $8,500 bond.
