Child, 3, Drowns in Cartersville

CARTERSVILLE, GA -- A family suffered a tragic loss Saturday when a toddler reportedly drowned in a private pool in Cartersville.

Crews with Bartow County EMS and Cartersville Police and Fire departments were all dispatched around 12:48 p.m. May 27 to a residence with a private pool on Waterford Drive. They arrived on the scene to find the victim, a three-year-old girl, unconscious, unresponsive and not breathing, said Bartow EMS spokesperson Brad Cothran.

Family members told authorities they began CPR when they made the discovery and emergency crews took over once they arrived at the home. The child was moved to the ambulance while EMS personnel and paramedics continued their advanced life-saving measures.

The child was transported to Cartersville Medical Center's emergency room, but was pronounced dead at the hospital, Cothran added.
