Coins Valued At $1,600 Stolen From Bartow County Home

ACWORTH, GA — The Bartow County Sheriff's Office is investigating a burglary in which coins valued at $1,600 were stolen from a home off Glade Road in unincorporated Acworth.

A deputy was dispatched to a call of a burglary around 12:45 a.m. June 1 to the home in the 4500 block of Camelot Drive. That deputy arrived and spoke with a resident, who said she left the home around 11 p.m. May 31 to pick up her boyfriend. She returned to the home after midnight to find it had been burglarized.

While she said she was unaware who may have wanted to break into a home, she did say an unknown person "removed the nailed-in sheet rock on the front window, entered, broke the couch while entering, stole items, left out the front door, and re-nailed the same sheet rock to the front window," according to the incident report.

The damage done to the couch was estimated to cost about $200 to fix, the report adds. Taken during the burglary were several half-dollars with mixed dates totaling $260; a $5 gold coin from 1996 worth $400; and miscellaneous coins worth $1,000, the deputy wrote in the report. The incident report indicates the total value of the money stolen was $1,660.

The case has been turned over to the Criminal Investigation Division for further review. Anyone with information is asked to call the Bartow County Sheriff's Office at 770-382-5050.
