Commissioner Proposes To Rollback Millage Rate

Residents will soon have a chance to weigh in on Bartow County Commissioner Steve Taylor’s proposal to reduce the property tax rate.

A public hearing on the proposal will be held at 10 a.m. July 24 in the Commissioner’s Conference Room at the Frank Moore Administration and Judicial Center, which is at 135 West Cherokee Avenue in Cartersville.
Taylor is proposing to roll back the rate in the incorporated areas from 10.97 to 10.30. For the unincorporated areas, the proposal is calling for the rate to decrease from 9.68 to 9.01.

Taylor said the county has seen a 5.7 percent preliminary increase in its tax digest and according to The Daily Tribune News, the county’s budget is in good enough shape “where we can afford to approve a tax reduction.”
County Administrator Peter Olson added that conservative budget expenditures and increased revenues have strengthened the county’s overall fiscal outlook, the Tribune reports.
