County Road Projects, New Fire Boat on Tap

In a public meeting today, Bartow County Commissioner Clarence Brown approved a number of items.

Brown approved an agreement with the Georgia Department of Transportation for more than 9 miles of resurfacing, which includes 1.6 miles on Old Grassdale Road between Peeples Valley Road and Busch Drive. Other roads under the agreement are Bozeman and Johnson Mountain, both in the Rydal area.

In a Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax project, Brown awarded a $745,418 bid to Southeastern Site Development for improvements to Sugar Valley Road from Road No. 2 South to Martin Road. The project will correct what county road officials say is a bad alignment with Padgett Road and rework both horizontal and vertical alignments.

• Abandoned a section of Harrison Road in Cartersville. The land is expected to be quit claimed to adjacent property owners.

• Exchanged properties and accepted maintenance responsibility for Georgia Power's new road at Plant Bowen. The county abandoned the old road in the area of Covered Bridge, Atwood and Old Stilesboro roads.

• Awarded a $283,255 bid to Graham Commercial Contractors to construct a tire wash at the landfill. The SPLOST project satisfies and Environmental Protection Agency recommendation to limit material tracked from the landfill to streets in the area.

• Declared some county property surplus and authorized its sale.

• Awarded a $40,700 bid to Sharp Top Trees for the installation of a hardwood tree buffer at Highland 75 industrial park on Zion Road at Cass-White Road.

• Approved a resolution to apply for grant funding for the construction of a new Bartow Health Access health clinic.

• Signed an agreement to accept $100,000 in grant funding for a search and rescue boat to be used at Lake Allatoona by the fire department.

• Accepted two detention ponds in the Foothills subdivision.

• Approved two malt beverage licenses — Acworth Fish Camp and Jenny's Food Mart.
