Cracker Barrel Fails Food Service Inspection

The restaurant on Highway 20 in Cartersville had many items stored above the required temperature.

Cracker Barrel, which is at 5631 Highway 20 in Cartersville, failed its March 4 food service inspection conducted by the Bartow County Environmental Health Department.

The restaurant, which received a 64, or U, on the inspection, was cited for the following by the inspector:

  • Observed an open beverage container on a food preparation table or over/next to clean equipment/utensils (corrected on site);
  • Condensation in reach in refrigerator ponding on top of all food present on left side of unit (corrected on site: all food discarded);
  • Observed old food stuck/splashed to clean dish ware/plates;
  • Observed potentially hazardous food cold held at greater than 41 degrees Fahrenheit: sliced tomatoes at 43; corn beef at 45; ground beef at 47; eggs at 54; country ham at 51; sliced country ham at 47 (food discarded);
  • Wiping cloth chlorine sanitizing solution not at proper minimum strength; observed cloth dipped in soap compartment on three compartment sink and used to wipe down cutting board;
  • Equipment and utensils not properly air-dried;
  • Observed build-up of grease on non-food contact surface, the area underside and behind grill; also grease build on top of hood;
  • Air gap not installed next to ice machine/office
  • Observed major grease and food debris buildup under grill; also floor grout missing;
  • Observed non-food contact equipment in poor repair; no metal container installed for catching grease from hood drip tray; observed worn, torn and/or soiled floors/carpeting.
  • Observed major grease and food debris buildup under grill;
  • Hood ventilation system inadequate, as evidenced by grease accumulation on walls/ceiling;
  • No proof of hood cleaning performed by cleaning service;

The form notes a follow-up inspection will take place March 19.
