CRBI Seeks Nominations For Greenie Awards

The awards recognize efforts in the areas of water conservation, sustainability, innovation, land protection and outdoor recreation.

CARTERSVILLE, GA -- As the extreme drought in northwest Georgia and northeast Alabama intensifies, a local organization charged with protecting the area’s streams and rivers is putting out the call for nominations for individuals, businesses, industries, local governments and organizations to be recognized for their efforts at conserving water.

The Coosa River Basin Initiative is seeking nominations for its 2017 Greenie Awards that recognize extraordinary efforts in the areas of water conservation, sustainability, innovation, land protection and outdoor recreation.

“When water becomes scarce, that’s when we usually begin thinking about conservation," said Joe Cook, advocacy and communications coordinator with CRBI. "The Greenie Water Conservation Award recognizes entities that are thinking about protecting our water long before we reach a crisis. The same can be said for recipients of our other awards.”

“This is an opportunity to celebrate what’s being done in Coosa River communities to improve our quality of life and keep our rivers clean,” said Cook. “Our hope is that by recognizing these efforts and promoting them we can enlist more people and businesses in similar efforts.”

The upper Coosa River basin includes the Georgia counties of Lumpkin, Dawson, Fannin, Pickens, Gilmer, Cherokee, Forsyth, Fulton, Cobb, Paulding, Polk, Bartow, Floyd, Chattooga, Walker, Whitfield and Murray as well as Cherokee County in Alabama. Entities or individuals living or doing business in these areas are eligible for the awards.
