Here are the top three stories in Cartersville today:

  1. The body of a 13-year-old Cartersville child was found yesterday. The death is being reported as being caused by a self-inflicted gunshot wound. According to a Bartow County Sheriff's Office press release, no further information will be released to the public. (wbhfradio.org)
  2. A recent Sierra Club study on Bartow's coal fired power Plant Bowen has ranked it as "one of the nation's most out-of-control polluters" and is to blame for "59 premature deaths in the last few years." Last year, Plant Bowen was saved from a shut down, but other Georgia Power plants were ordered to close. In 2025, state regulators will decide when to start the shut down process of Plant Bowen. 3. SK Battery and Bartow County filed a development plan with the state on Tuesday, Feb. 28. Construction is due to be finalized by summer 2025. The development plan will now go before the "Northwest Georgia Regional Commission for a closer look." When completed, the planned battery plant will bring roughly 2,000 jobs to Bartow County.
