Here are the top three stories today in Cartersville:

  1. Conceptual plans for the total 16,500-acre property abutting Highway 20 and Highway 411 have been released for the proposed "greenspace" project. Two open house meetings regarding the project are scheduled for Feb. 7th and Feb. 9th, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at 135 West Cherokee Ave. "It will be good for as many people as possible to come out to the courthouse main floor hearing room," Bartow County Zoning Administrator Richard Osborne said. "It's the same information at each open house … the purpose of those is for the applicant to be there, answer questions, get feedback from residents, property owners, anybody who has an interest in Bartow County and, specifically, the east and northeast part of the county." 2. On Jan. 10, the Cartersville Planning Commission voted to increase the allowed height of industrial park buildings from 50 feet to 75 feet. Members of the Commission also voted to correct a language conflict in a landscape ordinance dictating the number of islands in a parking lot. "So we just corrected that to eliminate the reference to 15 spaces — it brings it into compliance with the county, again, and with our landscape ordinance," said Cartersville City Planner David Hardegree. 3. The fastest-growing sport in America for the second year in a row, pickleball is gaining interest among all age groups. While Bartow County has plans for a dedicated pickleball court as part of the Hamilton Crossing Park expansion, none exist yet. The sport can be played at Dellinger Park, Houston Suggs Gym, the Manning Mill Gym, Mathew Hill Park, Hicks Park and Hamilton Crossing Park. Isabell Potter, a certified pickle ball coach, runs pickleball clinics during the year at Houston Suggs Gym. The clinics are $50 per five-week session and those interested can go to bartowcountyga.gov to register. (Subscription: The Daily Tribune News)
