Here are the top three stories today in Cartersville:

  1. As of Monday morning the North Georgia region, had only 32 platelet units available. Officials said 75-100 platelet units are needed on its shelves every day to supply more than 70 hospitals. Platelets have a short shelf life and collections are needed regularly. To encourage more donations, Blood Assurance is offering all platelet donors a $20 Amazon or Mastercard gift card through Friday, Aug. 19. (Northwest Georgia News)
  2. Georgia Department of Transportation is seeking community feedback on the proposed direct connection from U.S. Highway 411 to I-75. A live virtual Question and Answer session is scheduled for September 1 from 1 until 3 p.m. In-person public open house is scheduled for September 8 from 4 until 7 p.m. at the Bartow County College and Career Academy.   3. Tellus Science Museum is providing a home for five additional dinosaurs, a gift from longtime supporter Michael Mayo Macke. Macke's support led Tellus to obtain and install the rest of a triceratops' skeleton, a baby triceratops named "Lily," and three pterosaur skeletons. (Subscription: Daily Tribune)
