Donut Dash Raises Funds For Bartow Shop With A Hero

It’s never too early to consider helping a local child have a great Christmas through the Bartow Shop With A Hero program.

With that in mind, the Adairsville Police Department will host a Donut Dash 5K on Saturday, Sept. 12 at Adairsville Elementary School.

The cost is $30 to register in advance and $35 to register on race day. Race-day registration, along with race packet pick-up, will be held from 6:30 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. at the school.

The 5K kicks off at 8 a.m., and the route will take runners and walkers through the streets of downtown Adairsville.

To live up to the event’s name, glazed donuts will be available for your snacking pleasure -- thanks to Walmart.

Additionally, Bartow-based Eagle Sportz will be on hand to make customized T-shirts for residents. They will have long-sleeves, sweatshirts and T-shirts in several colors.

The Shop with a Hero program is designed to help provide Christmas to less fortunate children throughout Bartow County.

The children are selected by elementary school staff in the Bartow County School and Cartersville City School systems. Once chosen, the children are invited to shop with a hero just before Christmas.

Before the shopping trip, the children and their parents or guardians meet at the Clarence Brown Conference Center for breakfast and are transported by bus to Walmart.

The children are paired with a local hero and given $150, $100 of which must be spent on clothing for that child. The remaining $50 can be used to purchase something for themselves or family members.

Adairsville Elementary School is located at 122 King Street. Parking will be available at the school as well as the ball field across the street from the facility.
