Downtown Cartersville 5K Benefits Backpack Buddies Program

The race, set for Aug. 26, raises money for the initiative, which provides food-insecure children with weekend meals during the school year.

CARTERSVILLE, GA -- Runners and walkers alike are encouraged to take part in the first-ever Downtown Cartersville 5K and 1 Mile Road Race to benefit a program that ensures less fortunate youth have enough to eat during the weekends.

The 5K race, which will start and end in downtown Cartersville, will kick off at 8 a.m., with the 1-mile run beginning around 8:45 a.m. Pre-race registration, which guarantees participants a T-shirt, will run until midnight Aug. 24, and is $25 for the 5K and $15 for the 1-mile trek. The price rises to $35 for the 5K and $25 for the 1-mile run if you register the morning of the race.

The BackPack Buddies Program provides students in the Cartersville City and Bartow County school systems who live in food-insecure homes with weekend means throughout the school year. All proceeds raised for the event will be directed to the program.

After the races, residents are invited to stick around for age-group awards presentations, live music, vendors, and a craft beer tasting.
