Driver, 71, Dies in Adairsville Crash

The vehicle was traveling on S.R. 140 when it veered off the roadway, went down an embankment and collided with a large tree.

ADAIRSVILLE, GA -- The Georgia State Patrol is investigating a single vehicle accident that took the life of a 71-year-old man late Friday evening.

The accident occurred on S.R. 140 near the Bartow County Fire Station just outside Adairsville's city limits.

A white Chevy Cobalt driven by Jimmy Roger Morgan, 71, of Adairsville was traveling westbound on the highway when it "traveled from the westbound lane into the eastbound lane before exiting the roadway on the south shoulder," the state agency said.

The Cobalt then traveled down an embankment, hit several small trees and continued on the path before striking a large tree, GSP said.

Morgan pronounced dead at the scene, added Brad Cothran, spokesperson with Bartow County Emergency Medical Services.

The Georgia State Patrol said the driver's name will be released once his next of kin has been notified. Return to Patch for updates.
