Duck Dash 5K Raises Money for Advocates for Children

Nearly $12,000 was raised during the Oct. 1 event for children in Bartow County and northwest Georgia.

CARTERSVILLE, Ga.- Oct. 3, 2016: The 12th annual Duck Dash 5K and Fun Run to support Advocates for Children are in the books after a cool October morning start for the event that attracted runners from Northwest Georgia and beyond. About 100 participants took part in the event Saturday, Oct. 1.

Money was collected for Advocates for Children through race registrations and donations. Additionally, funds were secured through sponsorships from local businesses and organizations, including Cartersville Medical Center, Gary Fox, CPA and Ramey Wealth/Wells Fargo Advisors, bringing the total raised to nearly $12,000 before expenses.

The top three male finishers for the race included Brandon Davis of Cartersville in first place with a time of 17:06; David Gierlak of Kingston in second with a time of 19:15; and Lee Maxwell of Euharlee in third with a time of 20:11. In the top female category, Elise Barron of Homewood Ala. finished first with a time of 22:59; followed by Maureen Melinda Martin of Carterville in second with a time of 23:04; and Barbara Terry of Cartersville in third with a time of 23:07.

This event is one of several scheduled for this fall to support of Advocates for Children and its programs that are dedicated to the treatment and prevention of child abuse and neglect. Advocates for Children serves more than 3,000 families and children annually.
