Bartow County EMS spokesperson Brad Cothran said crews reported two patients -- both unconscious and unresponsive -- were trapped inside the truck.

Cothran added the male driver, 55-year-old Gary Wayne Sweet of Cartersville, appeared to have suffered a head injury and chest trauma, and was transported by helicopter to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta for treatment.

The passenger, Mary Sweet, 74, of Cartersville, was pronounced dead at the scene. Young said neither occupant, who she believes are mother and son, was wearing a seat belt.
