Micromounting: The Science of Small Minerals

Minerals come in an endless variety of shapes and sizes. Some of the most fascinating details cannot be seen with the naked eye; a microscope is required to reveal their beauty.

These small gems of the mineral kingdom will be the focus of the first-ever Micromount Gathering at Tellus. Scientists and mineral enthusiasts from around the southeast will converge on Tellus bringing with them hundreds of tiny minerals and microscopes to view the specimens.

Tellus Curator Julian Gray will discuss the appeal of this aspect of the hobby in a public lecture at 1 p.m. in the Tellus Theater.

Following the lecture, microscopes, minerals and experts will be on hand the rest of the day to share the joy of the unique and highly fascinating world of tiny minerals.

Whether you're an amateur, expert, or just curious and want to learn more, the micromount gathering at Tellus is perfect for everyone interested in minerals.
