Here are the top three stories today in Cartersville:

  1. A Cartersville man was sentenced on Thursday to spend 50 years in federal prison for his role in the death of Courtney Dubois. The man provided Dubois with the drugs that caused her death. Her body was taken from West Virginia to Cartersville and dismembered and disposed of in a landfill. The defendant was convicted of the crimes in 2021. (Department of Justice)
  2. At around 8 AM on Thursday morning, the Cartersville Police Department was called to a crash scene. The driver was arrested for suspicion of DUI and his vehicle was searched. The search led to the discovery of drugs and a possible explosive device. The CPD notified the GBI who inactivated the device. The driver is being charged with "criminal possession of an explosive device, DUI-drugs, possession of schedule II controlled substances, drugs to be kept in original container and possession of methamphetamine by ingestion." (The Cartersville Police Department via Facebook)
  3. Veterans seeking to further their education can find help through the VA and the VA Department at Georgia Highlands College. GHC offers a student veteran resource center at each campus as well as credit towards their degree for their experience in the Armed Forces. Eligible student veterans are also offered Federal Work-Study opportunities. Two such openings are available at the Rome and Cartersville campuses. (Six Mile Post)
