Former Cartersville Employee Charged With Theft

Kanneya Deleon Brown-Cooley is a former customer service employee with the city of Cartersville.

CARTERSVILLE, GA — A former employee with the city of Cartersville has been charged with four counts of felony theft by deception, the Cartersville Police Department said.

The city made the announcement Monday on its Facebook page. Kanneya Deleon Brown-Cooley, the city contends, was a former customer service employee who was "acting outside of the law and city policy."

She was subsequently fired from her position and was arrested. According to an incident report released by the police department, an officer met with the supervisor with the Customer Service Department on Thursday, March 15. The supervisor said some customers told the city that their accounts "have not been properly credited after payments had been made."

No other details about the alleged crimes Brown-Cooley committed have been released by the police department, but the report indicates about $500 in U.S. currency had been taken.

Bartow County Jail records show the Cartersville resident was booked into the facility March 23 and was released late Friday after posting an $8,000 bond.
