Here are the top three stories today in Cartersville:

1. A Cartersville man accused of attacking his mother's husband with "safety scissors" has pled guilty. The defendant was sentenced to ten years for one count of aggravated assault under Georgia's Family Violence Act, with the first 12 months to be served in the Bartow County Jail and the remainder to be served on probation. For the two remaining misdemeanor offenses of simple battery under Georgia's Family Violence Act and criminal trespass, he received concurrent 12-month jail sentences. 2. Georgia Power is closely monitoring Hurricane Ian, securing resources and adjusting plans. The company is prepared to respond quickly and as safely as possible to any service interruptions that may occur. The City of Cartersville and Georgia DOT are seeking your feedback about replacing the bridge on Sugar Valley Road over Nancy Creek to prevent further deterioration and improve load-carrying capacity.
