Here are the top three stories today in Cartersville:
- A man was shot while trying to run over a Cartersville police officer. Cartersville police officers were serving an arrest warrant on East Main Street at around midnight on Friday. They found the man inside a vehicle, but he refused to get out. He then drove at an officer, trying to run him down. The suspect was shot by the officers and was taken to Piedmont Cartersville Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. No officers were injured and the man was taken to jail after release from the hospital. The GBI will investigate the officer involved shooting. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
- Celebration of life service is set for Al and Millie Pallone. Al and Millie loved to travel together and loved their family deeply. Al enjoyed supporting his favorite sports teams and serving his community. Millie enjoyed helping her family and friends, shopping and the beach, her favorite travel destination. A celebration of life service at Tabernacle Baptist Church will be held Friday at 2 p.m. with Pastor Patrick Latham officiating. (Subscription: The Daily Tribune News)
- Fatal accidents took place on Cartersville and other Georgia roads during the holiday weekend. The holiday travel period that began Friday at 6 p.m. and ended Monday at 11:59 p.m. saw 12 traffic fatalities, with one in Cartersville. Law enforcement will be patrolling the state's highways throughout the coming New Year's holiday travel period. During last year's New Year's holiday period, law enforcement arrested 254 drivers for DUI. (Now Habersham)
