GDOT Awards Contract To Replace U.S. 41 Bridge In Bartow County

The project calls for replacing the bridge over Old Highway 41 just four miles south of Adairsville.

CARTERSVILLE, GA -- Work will soon begin on the project to replace the S.R. 3/U.S. 41 bridge over Old Highway 41 in Bartow County. The Georgia Department of Transportation has awarded a $3.9 million contract to Wright Brothers Construction Company, Inc. of Charleston, Tennessee, to replace the structure located about four miles south of Adairsville.

Plans call for building the bridge as well as the approaches on the highway, which is about .6 miles in length, the state said. The new bridge will be constructed directly adjacent to the existing bridge on the eastern side of the highway, which will allow for U.S. 41/S.R. 3 to remain open during construction.

The old bridge was built in 1949, and has been deemed structurally deficient by Georgia DOT bridge inspectors and recommended for replacement (SIGN UP: Get Patch's Daily Newsletter and Real Time News Alerts. Or, if you have an iPhone, download the free Patch app).
