GDOT Uses New Website, Social Media for Weather Updates
In addition to the old standards of radio and television, GDOT has gone digital on inclement weather and road condition information.

With freezing temperatures and frost on the ground this morning, we may be using sooner than later 's new methods of updating road conditions affected by inclement weather—Facebook, Twitter and a newly designed website.
The department has a new inclement weather section on its website, which can be found at www.dot.ga.gov/winterweather. In addition, the department will use social media outlets Facebook and Twitter to distribute information in the event of severe weather.
The Facebook page is facebook.com/GeorgiaDOT and follow the department on Twitter at twitter.com/gadeptoftrans.

GDOT staff will man the website and accounts for those who find it easier to follow weather alerts and updates through social media. Officials said these new outlets are in addition to the traditional means of radio, television and newspapers.
“The new webpage is a great way to let the public immediately see updates on road conditions,” said GDOT chairman Rudy Bowen. “I am excited to see the Department expanding its reach to different markets by increasing the use of social media."
