Historian to Talk Cass, Bartow Counties

A local Civil War historian will tell how Cass County was renamed Bartow County in honor of Francis Bartow.

The   is set to welcome Leonard Gandy, a local Civil War historian, to discuss Francis Bartow and the First Battle of Manassas, on Thursday at 7 p.m.

During the Civil War, Cass County was renamed Bartow County in honor of Francis Bartow, the first brigade commander in the Confederate Army to die in combat. Gandy will discuss the life of Bartow and the events that led up to the change in Cass County. After the presentation, Gandy will be available to answer questions.

The event is free for members. For not-yet-members, the event is included in museum admission.
