Home Stretch For Local Middle School Basketball Teams

Local middle school basketball teams in the Bartow-Gordon Middle School Athletic Association are positioning for tournament seeds.

Only eight days remain in the 2014-15 Bartow-Gordon Middle School Athletic Association (BGMSAA) basketball regular season and the top teams continue to position themselves for tournament seeding.

The Cass Middle School boys’ team enters the home stretch needing only one more win to clinch the top seed in their tournament. The Colonels (7-0) play at Cartersville Saturday and travel to Adairsville and Calhoun next week.

Cartersville (4-3) would need to win all three of their remaining games and have Cass lose all three to overtake them in the standings, so the ‘Canes will try to lock up at least the number two seed entering the tournament and position themselves for a tournament title run. Calhoun (4-4) and Woodland (4-4) also remain in contention for a top seed and the advantage of avoiding a first round game. The BGMSAA boys’ tournament begins Friday, January 23 at Adairsville Middle School.

On the girls’ side, unbeaten Calhoun (8-0) leads the standings and will clinch the tournament’s top seed with just one more regular season win. The Lady Jackets would also take the top seed if both Cass (5-2) and Cartersville (5-2) drop one of their three remaining games. Calhoun’s position is aided by the fact those two pursuing teams play one another Saturday at Cartersville. Calhoun closes out regular season play on the road Monday at Cartersville and Thursday at Cass. The BGMSAA girls’ tournament also begins Friday, January 23 at Adairsville Middle School.

The BGMSAA junior varsity basketball leagues are also winding down their regular season races. Cartersville’s boys (5-0) lead Cass (4-1) headed into Saturday’s showdown with Calhoun (4-2) closely pursuing. Meanwhile, Calhoun’s JV girls (6-0) sit atop those standings with Cartersville (4-1) and Woodland (4-3) on their heels. The BGMSAA junior varsity basketball tournament begins Wednesday, January 21 at Adairsville Middle School.
