Injured Man Rescued From Wooded Area in Bartow County

Bartow County officials had to use a utility task vehicle to get the man to an ambulance.

ACWORTH, GA -- First responders rescued a man who possibly broke his hip from a wooded area Thursday evening near the Bartow-Cobb County line.

Crews with Bartow County and Cobb fire departments, Bartow sheriff's office and Bartow EMS were dispatched around 10:44 p.m. April 27 to a call of a man injured in the woods in the vicinity of Bish Road.

Crews arrived on the scene to find the male roughly a half-mile into the wooded area from the road. Bartow EMS crews requested its utility task vehicle to be en route for assistance in transporting the male from the woods, said spokesperson Brad Cothran.

The man complained of hip pain and possibly suffered a fracture in that area of his body. Crews placed the patient on a backboard to stabilize his hip and leg and once the UTV arrived on the scene, he was put into a stokes basket and taken to an ambulance. He was subsequently transported to Cartersville Medical Center for treatment.

"The UTV was a great asset to have for this rescue due to the distance in the woods and conditions of the trails," Cothran added. "The crews would have had to carry this patient through these trails which, due to the rain, are slick and muddy, which could have resulted in someone falling and injuring the patient even worse or other crew members."
