Know Before You Go: Johnboy's, Waffle House Fail Inspections

Two Bartow County restaurants recently failed their food service inspections conducted by the Bartow County Environmental Health Department.

Johnboy’s Home Cooking on Aug. 13 scored a 68 on its inspection. The restaurant at 904 Joe Frank Harris Parkway in Cartersville was cited for:

• Employees have not received training related to their assigned duties.
• Certified Food Safety Manager does not demonstrate proficiency in active managerial control measures
• Active Managerial Control measures are not satisfactory for establishment to be in compliance with code
• Person in charge’s responsibility to prohibit a symptomatic conditional employee. The person in charge shall ensure that a conditional employee: who exhibits or reports a symptom, or who reports a diagnosed illness as specified under subsection. Person in charge not able to communicate employee illness factors.
• Observed personal open beverage container on a shelf above food preparation table; drink thrown in the trash.
• Observed dented/rusted cans; dented can of green beans discarded.
• Observed potentially hazardous food cold held at greater than 41 degrees Fahrenheit.
• Cooked potentially hazardous food not cooled from 135 degrees Fahrenheit to 41 degrees Fahrenheit within 6 hours.
• Observed opened/prepared container/package of ready-to-eat potentially hazardous food that does not bear a consume/sell by date/label.
• Observed water draining onto floor surface.

Waffle House, located at 1355 Joe Frank Harris Parkway in Cartersville, scored a 67 on its Aug. 7 inspection. The restaurant was cited for:

• Observed personal drink in the reach in cooler without a cap. Sitting directly over food.
• Observed food stored in the reach in cooler that was directly contaminated from a personal drink that had spilled onto it. Foods were discarded.
• As noted previously, several dishes had waste foods stuck on them and stored above the grill and over the chili steam table. These dishes were rewashed.
• Interior of ice machine has mold growing on it. The cooler needs to be cleaned and sanitized and refilled.
• The prep cooler at the front line was holding potentially hazardous foods at 57F-58F. All potentially hazardous foods in this cooler were discarded.
• Observed blood spilled on the shelving and floor of the walk in cooler that needs to be cleaned up and sanitized.
• As noted previously, the floors under and around the three compartment sink and the ice machine that are dirty and in need of cleaning.
