The gardens on Glen Cove Farm were begun in 2002. Many of the rooms in the garden were inspired by the owners’ travels. From Williamsburg, there is a formal room, with boxwood parterres surrounding a fountain made from a cast iron pot found on the farm, bordered on one side by the “holey” wall. The Southwest room has many potted agave plants and succulents with a greenhouse painted Santa Fe turquoise. The shade garden is set between the leaning barn, a “tree house” overlooking a waterfall, and the original outhouse for the home. The pattern of the knot garden, which is bordered by a berceau, can be viewed from the tree house. A lawn leads up to the moon gate, aka the Hobbit door. The newest room was built to house a GPO Telephone Kiosk No. 2 circa 1926. A Japanese-inspired room is currently under construction. Several quilt squares seen on the large barn on the road are echoed throughout the garden.

Along with a flower garden, a large man-made pond (stocked with several varieties of fish) greets you as you enter this 6 acre country setting. You will notice a 25 foot-long, sloped rock waterfall where water cascades as it is recirculated. In addition to the lovely native hardwood trees, the owner has planted a large assortment of fruit trees and other unusual trees: Japanese Maples, a ginkgo, a pistachio, and dogwoods, including a Kusa dogwood. Two large weeping willows offer grace and charm to this rural property. Immediately to the back of the house, there are a pergola, a pool house and a swimming pool. Near the pool, the owner has built a special Koi pond for enjoyment. Blueberry bushes nearby provide summer snacks. You can see firsthand how this natural area has been enhanced by its creative owners.

17 PMB Young Road, SE

This 2 ½ acre property is proof that you can have a beautiful area without breaking the bank! The owner prides himself in using many plants and flowers passed along from family and friends. Many of the potted
plants he enjoys are decades old. They meld with new selections into a beautiful and meaningful garden. The pond was creatively constructed by using a cattle trough, bought from a local farm supply store. The landscape features many Japanese Maples, apple trees, cherry trees, along with mature hardwoods. There is a vegetable garden, as well as blueberries to enjoy. Be sure to check out the pool area and the pasture with miniature horses vying for attention.

222 Tatum Ridge Road, SW

The Williamsburg-style house and gardens sit on 10 acres within the city limits. Surrounding the house are intimate patios, unique garden art, winding woodland paths, as well as wide open vistas. The pasture and a natural pond are surrounded by mature trees and shrubs. The garden beds closer to the house are intensely planted with over 300 different cultivars of hybrid daylilies. Among the daylilies are other perennials, annuals, bulbs, old garden roses, Japanese maples, as well as fruit-bearing trees and shrubs. A variety of containers are planted with herbs, conifers, hostas, sedums, and beautiful flowers. Please come and enjoy the many sights, sounds, and smells of this Master Gardener’s playground.

All of the above properties are absolutely beautiful and this is your chance to view their beautiful ponds and gardens. There will be a quilt raffle again this year!!
