Man, 19, Dies in Two-Vehicle Crash

CARTERSVILLE, GA -- A two-vehicle crash claimed the life of a 19-year-old resident Thursday afternoon in Bartow County.

Crews with Bartow County Emergency Medical Services responded to the crash, which was reported on S.R. 113 at Old Alabama Road in Cartersville.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, a Honda Civic driven by Cody Blake Knight of Cedartown was traveling on Old Alabama Road near its intersection with S.R. 113. A black Chevrolet Suburban, driven by Rockmart resident Cynthia Denise Rollis, was travling northbound on S.R. 113.

A preliminary investigation states Knight, 19, failed to yield and "traveled into the path of the Suburban," the agency said.

Collins couldn't avoid the collision and struck the Civic on its left side. After the impact, the Civic rotated and came to a rest in the northbound gore area of S.R. 113. The Suburban traveled through the median and into the southbound lane of S.R. 113.

Bartow EMS spokesperson said Knight was pronounced dead at the scene while Collins was transported to Cartersville Medical Center for treatment.

The accident remains under investigation.
