Man Arrested In Cartersville For Starting Fire At Store: Police

Police say the man set a book bag on fire at Big Lots because the bag was "making him feel bad." The store suffered minor damage.

CARTERSVILLE, GA—A Cartersville man is behind bars after police say he started a small fire and added ammunition to it, which resulted in bullets striking a popular chain store. Cortez Demon Logan has since been charged with arson in the first degree.

According the Cartersville Police Department, on Tuesday, Logan told them he went behind the Big Lots, which is located at 160 Market Square, and set his book bag on fire, because the bag was "making him feel bad."

"Multiple live and expended round of various calibers (.45, 9mm and 380 auto) were located in the fire and the surrounding area," a police report said.

The Cartersville Fire Department arrived on scene and extinguished the fire. Police say the ammunition from the fire was still exploding on their arrival. Several expended shell casings and bullets were found nearby.

Damage was caused to the back door of Big Lots by one of the bullets, police said.

After placing Logan in handcuffs, police said they discovered that he had additional bullets in his possession.

Logan was ultimately booked in the Bartow County jail.
