Man Attacks Elderly Resident During Home Invasion: Police

CARTERSVILLE, GA -- A Cartersville resident has been charged with assaulting an elderly resident following an alleged domestic dispute with two family members.

Jason Hansard, 36, was arrested Tuesday and booked into the Bartow County Jail on cruelty to persons 65 and older, aggravated assault, false imprisonment, home invasion, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime, terroristic threats and kidnapping charges, the Bartow County Sheriff's Office said.
The incident unfolded when deputies responded around 8:49 a.m. April 26 to a domestic dispute at a home on Sweetbriar Circle in unincorporated Cartersville.

The 911 caller told dispatchers that Hansard, who is his adult stepson, allegedly had been holding him and his wife "against their will with a knife, and was possibly under the influence of drugs," according to the sheriff's office.
The man said he was able to call 911 when Hansard went outside. Deputies arrived and searched the area for the suspect. Meanwhile, 911 dispatchers received calls from residents in nearby communities who reported seeing Hansard walking around the area.
Things began to get more dangerous when around 11:30 a.m., Hansard allegedly invaded a home on Bennett-Kimbral Road, the sheriff's office said.
According to the agency, Hansard fought the elderly homeowner during the invasion. Deputies were able to track down Hansard and take him into custody. The victim in the home invasion was treated and released at the scene for injuries related to the assault.
Hansard is currently being held without bond at the jail.
