Man Led Police On Chase, Crashed, Had Meth In Car: CPD

Police say he was nervous and was speaking incoherently at a traffic stop before speeding off.

CARTERSVILLE, GA — A Cartersville man is facing multiple charges, including a felony, after speeding off during a routine traffic stop, according to a report from the Cartersville Police Department.

On Wednesday, Nov. 6, around 11:15 p.m., Officer Martino pulled over a Jeep around Cassville Road and Goodyear Avenue for driving without a license plate, the report says. He pulled the Jeep over at Cassville near Parr Wade Road. The car stopped abruptly and Martino said it looked like the driver was "rummaging in the vehicle."

Martino said the driver, Jessie Miller, 61, of Cartersville, was "acting nervously, fidgeting and speaking incoherently."

After learning Miller was wanted for a probation violation, he told him to get out of the car. After Martino repeated the command, the report says, Miller sped off, nearly running over Martino's foot.

Martino and a police lieutenant started to chase Miller. A deputy took over the chase with Miller as back up.

Miller turned onto Firetower Road then tried to make a left turn onto Joe Frank Harris Parkway, but lost control and wrecked, police say. He drove his car into the woods and ran on foot.

The officers caught him. A search revealed no contraband on him, but police found a "white crystalline substance," what they believe to be methamphetamine, in his car's front seat. Miller denied knowing what it was.

Police charged miller with failure to register a vehicle, two misdemeanor counts of obstruction, reckless driving and felony fleeing/attempting to elude.

The sheriff's office will have more charges for Miller, the report says.
