Man Reports Someone Cut Braking Wires To Van

The man said his brakes felt "spongy" and when he tried to use them while driving on I-75, the pedal went all the way to the floor.

ADAIRSVILLE, GA — A Cartersville resident reported someone intentionally cut off the braking system in his van, an action that placed him in danger while driving on Interstate 75 last week.

According to an incident report released by the Bartow County Sheriff's Office, the 36-year-old man told police his 2012 white Chevrolet Express van was parked in his driveway overnight on Sunday, March 18. When he began the journey to work the following morning, he said he "noticed his brakes felt spongy," the report adds.

The driver entered Interstate 75 and when he tapped his brakes, the pedal went all the way to the floor. He towed the vehicle to Tri Star Auto in Adairsville to have his vehicle inspected.

The mechanic told the resident that the brake line on the back passenger side had been punctured and "it clearly had been done on purpose by someone," the incident report said.

"The wire to the ABS (anti-lock braking) system had been cut as well on the front passenger side," the deputy wrote.

According to the report, the resident said he'd been "having a lot of problems" with a woman who has been harassing him, and she has even been arrested for those alleged actions. He told the deputy he believes the woman had something to do with the damage done to his van.

The sheriff's deputy also inspected the brake line and the ABS wire that was damaged from the puncture.

"You could clearly tell it was done purposely by someone," the deputy wrote in his report.
