Map: Closures for Rail Crossing Work
Repairs to two of the worst railroad crossings in town—near South Erwin Street and its intersection with Old Mill Road—will affect traffic for a week beginning Friday.

Two of the bumpiest railroad track crossings in are set for repairs.
Officials say the city's department has been working with railroad CSX to fix "two major railroad crossings that are in desperate need of repair"—those near the intersection of South Erwin Street and Old Mill Road. Now, the time is here.
The first work set to take place will improve the crossing on South Erwin Street, city representatives said in a press release. CSX will start those repairs Friday.

A portion of South Erwin Street is set to close at 8 a.m. Friday and is expected to remain shut down until Tuesday at 7 a.m. Crews will provide a detour, but it's unclear which route it will take. Check our map above for routes around the area.
When the work on the South Erwin Street crossing is complete, CSX is set to start on the Old Mill Road tracks. It will necessitate an Old Mill Road closure in that area from Tuesday at 8 a.m. and likely continuing through Friday, Feb. 10, at 7 a.m.

But during that time, traffic will be detoured via River Drive, which also is shown on our map.
