Prematurity is the No. 1 killer of babies in the United States, and the March of Dimes is working to change that statistic to help more moms have full-term pregnancies and healthy babies.

From polio to prematurity, the March of Dimes has focused on researching the problems that threaten children and finding ways to prevent them. Fundraising activities like #GivingTuesday help support lifesaving research for babies.

#GivingTuesday — which follows Black Friday and Cyber Monday — is a global philanthropic day designated for charitable giving.

WBHF AM 1450/100.3 FM is hosting a radiothon to benefit March of Dimes from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. Dec. 1, and residents can make telephone and in-person pledges for the campaign.

As an added incentive, an anonymous donor has pledged to match all donations up to $1,000.

From 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and between 1:30 p.m. and 4 p.m., March of Dimes volunteers will be stationed at the corner of Church and Erwin streets collecting donations in purple buckets.

The first 100 donors will receive a famous Agan’s Bakery cookie.
