Here's his full statement distributed via email:

I had a strong philosophical issue with part of a decision that was made by council at the December first meeting. Though it has been rarely used in the history of the city, the charter does give the Mayor the power to veto. I decided that I would exercise that option because I feel that it is in the best interest of the city of Cartersville and of the city council. I filed the veto with the city clerk’s office on Monday afternoon. The council does have the option to override my veto if they choose. The item will be up for consideration at our Special Called Meeting on this Thursday afternoon at four o'clock.
