Christopher Michael Abernathy, 14, "The Class Clown"

The following obituary was submitted by R. Dudley Barton & Son Funeral Home in Adairsville:

Christopher Michael Abernathy, 14, of Aztec Way, Acworth, passed away Monday, Jan. 12, 2015 at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

He was born in Cartersville on Oct. 2, 2000. Chris was a 7th grade student at South Central Middle School. His friends would label him “the class clown” with his keen sense of humor and friendly personality. Chris was a die-hard Florida Gators fan and enjoyed singing and listening to music. He loved spending his time with family especially his brothers. Chris was preceded in death by his brother, Devin Leroy Abernathy.

Survivors include his parents, Bret and Angie Dunham of Acworth; brothers, Shawn Abernathy, Dylan Abernathy, Wayne Dunham, Jamie Cagle, and Jeff Cagle; biological parents, Tiffany Samiec and Michael and Nakoda Abernathy; grandparents, Shirley Batson and Jasper and Roberta Abernathy; godfather, Michael Asherbranner and several cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015, at 2 p.m. at NorthPointe Church in Adairsville with Rev. Eric Sorrell officiating.

Interment will be in Eastview Cemetery, Adairsville. Pallbearers include Michael Asherbranner, Danny Abernathy, David Abernathy, Jeff Cagle, Jacob Cagle, Anthony Collum, Justin Thorton, and George Cason. Honorary pallbearers include Jamie Cagle, Johnny Thorton and Joedon Collum.

The family will receive family and friends on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015, from noon to 2 p.m. at NorthPointe Church, 30 Orchard Road, Adairsville, Georgia 30103.
