In Memory: Jimmy Deering, 82, Loved The Outdoors

Deering retired from the United States Navy with 22 years of service and also served on the funeral detail for President Dwight Eisenhower.

Jimmy Deering, 82, of Cartersville died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2017. Deering was born on Feb. 20, 1934 in Summerville, Georgia, and was the son of the late Russell Deering and Essie Campbell Deering.

Jimmy retired from the United States Navy with 22 years of service. He served as a member of the funeral detail for President Dwight Eisenhower. Jimmy loved the outdoors, working on lawn mowers or anything with a small engine.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brother, Bradley Deering; and his granddaughter, Vanessa Deering.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Deering; his children, Jimmy Deering (Helen), Jeff Deering (Sharon), Shelia Black (Tim), Jeff Rogers (Melissa) and Rhonda Rogers; his brother, Donovan Thomas; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with The Reverend Donnie Summey and Reverend Ricky Sanford.

Interment will follow in the Providence Cemetery with full military honors presented by the United States Navy Honor Guard. Serving as pallbearers will be Dakota Rogers, Tristan Rogers, Dalton Rogers, Christopher Farmer, Harley Deering and Nathan Deering.
