Here are the top four stories in Cartersville today:

  1. A historically low millage rate was tentatively set by Bartow County's Board of Education. It unanimously set the 2022 tentative millage rate at 17.79. This new rate will lead to a 13.59% increase in property taxes. The millage rate in 2017 was 18.99, followed by 18.85 in 2018, 18.75 in 2019, 18.65 in 2020 and 18.116 in 2021. The Bartow County BOE will hold three public hearings on the millage rate and it is set to be adopted after the final meeting. (Subscription: Daily Tribune News)
  2. Bartow County Administrator Peter Olson said March 2023 is the target completion date of Cartersville's new parking deck. Located in Downtown, across from the Legion Theater, there will be no charge to use the parking deck for non-electric vehicles. Electric car charging will be accessible, but payment for those services will be required. (Subscription: Daily Tribune News)
  3. Alliance Residential Co. plans to build a new community in Cartersville near Pine Mountain Overlook. Prose Cartersville will be well situated to serve a high-growth employment corridor and will welcome its first residents next year. (Multi-Housing News)
  4. Cartersville, known as "Museum City," collects art, history and wonder. Home to the Tellus, Booth, Savoy and other smaller museums, Cartersville draws in tourists and national attention. Smithsonian Magazine named Cartersville as one of the 15 Best Small Towns to Visit in 2022.(Reporter Newspapers)
