More Laptops On The Way For Bartow Students

School board members voted to purchase a little more than 2,000 devices for students and teachers at Woodland and Adairsville high schools.

Cartersville, GA -- The Bartow County School Board on Monday voted to approve the purchase of a little more than 2,000 laptops for a learning initiative, according to The Daily Tribune News.

Board members voted to approve using Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax, or SPLOST, dollars to buy 1,846 11-inch Dell Latitude 3160 student laptops 189 13-inch Dell Latitude 3350 teacher laptops.

The purchase price is $1.09 million, and is part of the system’s plans to expand the 1:1 environment at its facilities.

School system officials note the laptops will be given to students at Woodland High School and teachers at both Woodland and Adairsville high schools.

Board members also voted to provide additional administrative support with the hiring of Billy Wehunt to serve as assistant principal at South Central Middle School.

Wehunt will serve as 49-percent contracted services personnel from Feb. 1 to May 31 of this year.

The contract has been approved through the state’s Teacher Retirement System process in an amount not to exceed $31,000 for the time period.
