At around 9:09 a.m. a 2015 Volkswagen Jetta was traveling southbound in the left lane while a 2012 Nissan Altima was in the center lane. A 1996 Ford F350 was positioned behind the Nissan. Both the Jetta and Altima had either slowed down or stopped due to traffic coming to a halt in front of them.

The driver of the Jetta, Louise Stephanie Venne, 36, of White, said she was trying to move her vehicle onto the right shoulder at the time of the crash. The Ford, driven by 52-year-old David Wayne Leonard of Chelsea, Michigan, traveled between the Altima and Jetta and its trailer hit the right side of the Volkswagen and the left side of the Altima.

The Jetta came to a rest on the median shoulder facing south and the Altima -- driven by Beverly Summerlin, 28, of Rome -- stopped in the southbound lane facing east. The Ford pickup truck came to a stop on the westbound shoulder facing south.

Leonard was charged with following too closely. There were no injuries.
