Museum Opens Annual Booth Artist Guild Exhibit

An opening reception for the exhibit, featuring 59 works of art, will be held on Thursday, May 19 in Cartersville.

CARTERSVILLE, GA -- For an artist, continuing education is crucial, and the Booth Western Art Museum prides itself on offering these opportunities through presentations, exhibitions and demonstrations.

For the fourth consecutive year, the museum is showcasing the work of members from the Booth Artists' Guild in Borderlands Gallery through Aug. 14.

Membership in the Guild has grown to over 130 members from across the nation. Each year, members are encouraged to submit their work to the museum for the annual juried exhibition. This year, 105 works of art were submitted for consideration.

Of those 105 pieces, 47 artists were chosen to have 59 works of art included in the exhibition. The 47 artists in this exhibition represent Georgia, Florida and Tennessee.

“We have some beautiful work done by some very talented people,” Marcia Dillard, Booth Museum volunteer coordinator & group scheduling, BAG coordinator and BAG member, said. “Of those 59 pieces, 53 are paintings and six are sculptures. Something I find very exciting about this year’s exhibition, of those 59 pieces, eight are from BAG members who have never had their work on display at the Booth Museum."

Started in March 2010, the Guild has provided a way for artists to come together on a monthly basis to hear programs on marketing, photographing and framing works of art, plus programs on different mediums, styles and genres. Some of the meetings include artist demos and some offer attendees a chance to get their hands in paints and glue to create quick little masterpieces.

“Basically, we just have fun learning anything, or experiencing anything related to art,” Dillard added.

On Thursday, May 19, Booth Museum members as well as guests are invited to the opening reception for the exhibit, which will start at 5 p.m. in the Borderlands Gallery. You can be among the first to see the exhibition and meet the featured artists.

Light refreshments will be available in Borderlands meeting room.

Following the opening reception, members and guests are encouraged to attend a lecture -- starting at 7 p.m. -- featuring sculptor Vic Payne in the Bergman Theatre.

Payne has accomplished a lot in his 35 year career, creating over 100 sculptures, including two dozen monuments. One of his most dramatic works, "The Eagle Catcher," is the focal point of Booth Museum's soaring, two story sculpture atrium.

This lecture will be Payne's first public appearance in the south, the museum states.

The Booth Artists’ Guild meets at 6 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month at the Booth Art Academy located at 1 North Gilmer Street in Cartersville.

The cost for being a BAG member is a Booth Western Art Museum membership plus $24 a year. For more information, visit www.boothmuseum.org or call 770-387-3849.
