Here are the top three stories in Cartersville today:
- The first four participants of Bartow and Gordon County's new mental health accountability court were inducted on Oct. 18, a date that Cherokee Judicial Circuit Judge Rosemary Greene has waited on for years. Greene says the top priority of the new court, is to stop the "revolving door" of mental illness and crime. Qualifying court participants will be enrolled in a program that lasts at the minimum 18 months. There will be additional aftercare requirements such as continuing mental health treatment, intensive supervision, drug testing, developing life skills and counseling. - A 19-year-old Cartersville man sentenced to 20 years in Bartow Superior Court on Oct. 18, with the first five years to serve in prison. The defendant was charged with robbery by force, aggravated assault, first degree burglary, criminal attempt to commit theft, criminal trespass, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, two counts of theft by taking and two counts of entering an automobile. - Near the intersection of GA-20 U.S. Route 411, the new venture is expected to be completed in 2023. The new Cartersville Commerce Center will be a three-building, 247,109-square-foot industrial park. (Connect CRE)
