Police Identify Pedestrian Killed in Bartow Crash

The 45-year-old Cartersville man was fatally wounded when a pickup truck left the roadway and hit him before colliding with a tree.

Bartow County, GA -- A pedestrian was killed early Friday morning in a single-vehicle accident in Bartow County.

Bartow County Emergency Medical Services and the Georgia State Patrol responded to the crash around 5:58 a.m. Dec. 18 on S.R. 61 near Wades Chapel.

Initial reports indicate a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling northbound on S.R. 61 while a pedestrian was walking alongside the west side of the highway.

The truck ”traveled across the southbound lanes and off the west side of the roadway, striking a sign with the front of the vehicle,” the state agency said.

After that initial impact, the truck hit a pedestrian and then a tree.

The pedestrian, Thomas Lee Brock, 45, of Cartersville, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the truck, 63-year-old Norman Phillip Barr of Acwroth was injured and airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital, GSP said.

The Georgia State Patrol said charges are pending the completion of the Specialized Collison Reconstruction Team’s follow-up investigation.
