Here are the top three stories in Cartersville today:

  1. Georgia utility regulators amended and approved Georgia Power's energy plan. Commission staff, the company and industry groups reached a deal on Thursday that will keep two coal-fired units at Plant Bowen open until 2025. Georgia Power said the Bowen units are money losers and the commission will reevaluate in 2025 whether they should be closed. The deal will close all other coal-fired units by 2028, some within weeks. (U.S. News & World Report)
  2. Bartow County Commissioner, Steve Taylor, answer's residents' questions during a conversation with Comcast Channel 29 producer, David Paul. He sat down with Taylor and asked a few of the community's questions. (Cartersville Uncut via Facebook)
  3. A Cartersville man was shot and a Temple woman was charged. In reference to a report of a male with a gunshot wound to his head, officers responded to 23 Pointe Way on Saturday, June 18. The victim was transported to the Piedmont Cartersville Medical Center and was later air-lifted to Chattanooga Erlanger Hospital. CPD investigators arrested Maude Annette Glisson, 61, of Temple on Wednesday and charged her with aggravated assault, aggravated battery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Glisson is currently at the Bartow County Jail. (WBHF)
