Police Investigate Two-Vehicle Collision Involving Semi-Truck

The accident occurred Monday along S.R. 140 at the northbound exit ramp of Interstate 75 in Adairsvile.

The Adairsville Police Department is investigating an accident that resulted in an overturned commercial vehicle at a busy intersection.

According to the agency’s press release, Adairsville police and emergency medical responders with the Bartow County Fire Department responded to the accident on Monday along S.R. 140 at the northbound exit ramp at Interstate 75.

When first responders arrived onto the scene, they discovered Wayne E. Payne of Whitesburg entrapped in a white 1998 Volvo 42T semi-truck — a commercial vehicle registered to Southern Green Industries, Inc. — as a result of a collision.

According to witnesses on the scene, Payne was traveling northbound on the exit ramp “where he attempted to make a right-hand turn too fast,” Adairsville police said.

The vehicle overturned on its left side and slid through the intersection where it collided with a white 2013 Ford F-150 driven by Eric J. Durden of Atlanta, police said.

Payne was extricated from his vehicle and airlifted to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga where he was treated for his injuries. The accident remains under investigation.
